Purposes of The Waterways Network (TWN)
Purposes
Here are the purposes of The Waterways Network from our articles of association. I like them. Well, I wrote them with the excellent help of Christopher Bamford, one of the great editors. We put a lot of thought into getting them right. So they are worth giving an airing here, as a reminder of what we are about.
1. The purpose of the association is to act as a charity to enhance the natural environment and its waterways through any one or more of the following activities:
2. Supporting community environmental groups (in particular place-based groups and start-up groups) and individual citizen scientists, to expand and share knowledge in ways that promote better water and environmental policy and regulation.
3. Raising funds from philanthropic individuals and groups to support community environment groups, in particular groups that do not have Deductible Gift Recipient status or formal charity status.
4. Fostering an understanding of the importance of waterways in creating and sustaining biodiversity and ecosystems, with waterways including all flowing water above and below ground and bodies of water, for example dams and wetlands.
5. Promoting networks and connections between community environment groups and professionals, who have shared interests in water and biodiversity.
6. Promoting and sharing knowledge about the role of water in biodiversity.
7. Undertaking and promoting revegetation, landscape regeneration(including building soil carbon) and regenerative farming projects focused on rehabilitating waterways including bodies of water, for example dams and wetlands.
8. Identifying and helping to implement initiatives that will protect and restore waterways.
9. Supporting effective, independent public advocacy for waterways and for better water policy; and
10. Building and making publicly accessible knowledge relating to the water and waterways.
11. Celebrating the ecological and social value of rivers and waterways and their tributaries.
Excellent and laudable objectives all, go Waterways Network!
